AC68U AiMesh Wired Still Dropping Nodes on Wireless Signal Strength (Solved)

Hi,

I now realize that the AiMesh problems are because of the weak signal strength between the AiMesh host and the node. I have one host and a node. Even though they are wired, and the admin panel reports as the connection is wired, the node is being dropped and re-added depending on the wireless strength.

I think this issue was somehow missed in the node retaining function. Could you guys fix this? Not check the wireless strength between nodes, just the clients? So the end result should...

I have reported this issue to Asus, Merlin and posted on forums.

Asus pretty much a no answer on the tech side, well I expected less at least I got a reply from a level 1 canned response o_O

Merlin says contact Asus :rolleyes:

So this issue I have had after Merlin 378.50 and Asus 3.0.0.4.378.8258 is anything higher than these builds and you are setting up Media Bridge the Media Bridge simply stops responding every 24 hours. I AM ON THE LATEST FIRMWARE of Merln and tried on latest...

Unique situation: have multiple AC5300 and AC3100's in office running AI Mesh and have no issues. Have a company 48 foot trailer that is a mobile office and spends time both in the field and in our garage.

Brainstorming how to get good wifi performance inside trailer and was thinking about adding another AC3100 as an additional mesh node. However, I'd like to set it up where if the trailer is in the field, a Verizon 4G USB stick is the failback/dual WAN option and it seamlessly transitions...

Hello,

first - sorry for my english, but i can't find a forum like this.
I'm sure that you can help me.
I habe 2 Asus here. AC 68U (upstairs) and a new Blue Cave. I have problems with my Wifi "downstairs", so i wanna try a Aimesh.
I have no problems to create the Aimesh. On the WebGui (the AC68U is the main router) the Blue Cave is in the list of the Aimesh-nodes.
But i dont now, what i have to do now? The only SSIDs are the SSIDs from my AC68U.
I thought, i will get an new SSID for all...

I updated my Asus RT-Ac3100 to firmware 3.0.0.4.384_45713

interesting issue, I use Port Forward a lot and on the WAN page, all my Port Forwards show up, but when I want to edit or add one, the "save" button doesn't appear. So I can't add, delete, or edit any Port Forwards. I tried a few different browsers, rebooting the router, etc. Save button just does not appear at all.

I know this may seem lame, but I have an RT-AC56U and will be upgrading to an RT-AC1900P. Since Asus routers use the same web based UI, when I install the new one, will it transfer the settings saved for the 56U? I'm assuming it will be like starting over again since the models are different but I thought it would be worth asking in case its not. Sorry if this sounds dumb.

I've had very good luck with open box/refurb routers from newegg over the years. I currently have 2 RT-AC3100 refurbs that were like new and have given me no problems.

However, I've been trying to add a 3rd with great frustration. The first one actually had a big sticker on it that said BAD with an inventory list in the box of other defective routers with serial numbers :) Wouldn't even boot or complete a recovery reload of firmware. I suspect someone grabbed from the RTV stack.

Changing LAN private IP range via VPN connection?

I have a VPN tunnel setup between my cabin and my house with the router at my house acting as the client and the router at my cabin acting as the server. I would like to temporarily change the LAN IP subnet address (e.g., from 192.168.61.x to 192.168.1.x) on the cabin's router via my VPN connection. No problem getting to the router interface page to make the change, but I'm wondering if the cabin network will become inaccessible via VPN after I make the change. Anyone have any experience...

I just bought rt-ac67u it come with two router at first i want to try Meshwifi but it really mesh up so many complain compare to deco M9 , I mean my family member complain but i think i want to give merlin another try just set one router and other as AP so i wonder which firmware should i flash since I'm tired of official firmware that give me a lot of wifi problem

Guest Network on Nodes

I'm looking for something a bit different.

I have an AC86U as my router and an AC68U as my node. I run an airbnb in an adjacent property with the node in that house, tied into my main router.

I would like to have a guest network on that node only for the guests to use to access the internet, while my main network is still in a mesh configuration so my smart locks, thermostats etc run off the main network segregated from guests. Is this possible at all? I don't need guest network...

I have a puzzling (at least to me) problem that I haven't seen before on my RT-AC68U's (the primary and an AiMesh node on wired backhaul). I recently upgraded to the the latest firmware (3.0.0.4.384.45713) and after a few days of running, I was experiencing some issues mainly:

1. The kids were reporting their iPads kept disconnecting from the WLAN randomly
2. One of the laptops (HP Spectre x360) which never had any issues connecting on 802.11ac in the past, now suddenly will only connect...

2 clients are connecting to RT-AC68U?

Hi,

Just out of curiosity - did anyone decide to give up on their Aimesh endeavors and go all in on something else such as Orbi, Google Wifi or similar? If so, did that improve things?

I am in Aimesh hell with daily connectivity issues where I need to reboot the master node to solve things.

Main: RT-AC68U - Wired backhaul to RT-AC66U_B1

Been patching and resetting and following general guidelines, but to no avail. Quite contrary, seems to be getting worse for each patch. Don't have...

Hi all,

I have two RT-AC88U routers combined into AiMesh network:

Firmware Version: 3.0.0.4.384_45713 (afaik latest)

Router 1 is configured as AiMesh master.
Router 2 is configured as AiMesh node.

ISP1 -- (Ethernet cable) -- Router 1 WAN Port
ISP2 -- (not connected yet – waiting for ISP to install the network) –– Router 1 LAN Port 1
Router 1 LAN Port 2 -- (Ethernet cable) -- Router 2 WAN Port

ISP1: 50Mb/s upload / 50Mb/s download
ISP2: don't know yet

RT-AX88U and 160 Mhz Channel Bandwidth on 5Ghz network

I am having RT-AX88U with latest firmware as of today. Now under 5Ghz Wifi settings, if I enable 160 Mhz Channel Bandwidth, all my 5Ghz devices like iPhone X and Google Pixel 2 drop wifi. The 5Ghz network vanishes. How am I supposed to use 160 Mhz? The network disappears regardless of being set to 20/40/80/160 or 160 exclusively.
Help would be highly appreciated.

Asus rt ac68u firmware update not showing.

I have a weird problem, I have the Asus rt ac68u router with firmware 3004374379 when newly connected
to the internet I get a msg. update available.
When I say yes install I see the update bar running from 0 to 100 percent, but after I reboot the unit
the old firmwarenumber is being displayed.
Also did a manual update for the latest Merlin Fw, same as above router goes thru the motion but
after re-boot the old fw still shown?
Any idea's / suggestions.

Sorry for newbie questions.

I just switched from Netgear to Asus WiFi router. And it seems to be that Netgear's ReadyCloud to be a little bit convenient than Asus? Or I didn't explore the full potential of Asus yet?

For example:
1) NetGear ReadyCloud can create shared link with password protection. I was not able to figure out how to do that with Asus AiCloud.
