VPN server logs

I have the following logs on my VPN server on the RT-AC5300, what is the meaning of them? I wasn't trying to connect to:

Jul 13 20:11:32 15[IKE] 216.218.206.102 is initiating a Main Mode IKE_SA
Jul 14 02:37:53 10[IKE] 71.6.158.166 is initiating a Aggressive Mode IKE_SA
Jul 14 06:11:01 05[IKE] 89.248.167.131 is initiating a Aggressive Mode IKE_SA
Jul 14 21:46:15 11[IKE] 71.6.146.186 is initiating a Aggressive Mode IKE_SA
Jul 14 22:04:22 13[IKE] 216.218.206.90 is initiating...

RT-AC88U AiProtection Security Alerts

I'm seeing this in my router AiProtection tab, under the Two-Way Intrusion Prevention System:
View attachment 13574

Looks like it's from some University in China, trying to access my outdoor security camera.
And other different security alerts for that camera too.
Anything I should be really worried about?

5G channel 128+132 and 136+140 on RT-AC86U

Is there a reason that asus uses this for me very strange 40MHz channels?
Seen on two RT-AC86U with EU-setting shown in the last 2 rows.

What I read till now in 5G they should only use channel combinations in steps by 2 (in brakes for 80MHz).
100+104 (+) 108+112
116+120 (+) 124+128
132+136 (+) 140+144

But they use different overlapping ones 128+132 or 136+140 , so leaving channels out what will give same troubles like in 2.4G if someone uses ch. 2, 3 or 4.
Never seen a recommendation to...

wireless modes broken 2G 802.11b/g/n and 5G a/n/ac

I tested some wireless settings and they all buggy in 2G and 5G!
2G n only would be exactly what is described for legacy while 2G legacy should be named b/g!
Said that I completely missing the usefull 2G g/n mixed mode without problematic b (22MHz-DSSS)

2G wireless mode
auto: b/g/n -> correct
legacy: b/g -> NOT correct as n (54Mbps) missing!
n only: b/g/n -> NOT correct as opened b/g too!

5G wireless mode
auto: a/n/ac...

AiMesh vs SSH (or games like Clash of Clans, etc)

I was pretty sure that AiMesh should help keeping existing connections alive when I switches from one AiMesh node to another, but seems like it doesn't work as I expected. If I do the following:

  1. open, let say, ssh connection being connected to the AiMesh router
  2. move to the bedroom (another AiMesh node)
after that the ssh connection always broken. The same if I run games like Clash of Clans, etc - switching node causes disconnection from the game server.

I'm wondering...

[SOLVED] Help! Cannot connect AC68U to my AC86U as aimesh node

Quick background
- 86U brand new just purchased and ensured it has latest firmware for aimesh
- 68U older router running v24/2014 flavor of dd-wrt. Used Asus Recovery to flash latest firmware to 68U. The first time I flashed the router was very slow so I did a factory reset in the Asus UI itself and then reflashed the firmware a second time and it seems fast and stable.

THE PROBLEM
- Everything seems happy; I power on the 68U and when I click aimesh in the 86u host router...

My RT-AC88U crashed when getting the signature update today

I've never had this happen before but my router suddenly dropped the wan connection today and no matter what I did short of a reset would get it to reconnect to the ISP. Once I reset it and let it reboot going through the automatic setup procedure it would connect to the net.

If I tried to restore the previous setting file it would bomb immediately forcing me to manually reenter my settings which took. Once I did this I noticed that the signature settings had been updated with today's...

I have a ROG 5300. I’m using link aggregation with a built in Ethernet port and an add on Ethernet card. When it works it works great. Problem is I’m having intermittent loss on internet access of that PC (intranet is always up). Wondering if it’s an issue with using two different Intel NICs or is link aggregation just not stable with the router? The PC is running Win 10.

Thinking about buying a motherboard with dual NICs. I’ve looked at some dual NIC addon cards but the only ones I’ve...

Anyone using link aggregation?

Best practice suggestions and guidelines for settings in firmware?

I finally just updated the three and a half year old firmware in my RT-N66U to the most current firmware. :)

Of course I see there are many changes to the settings that are available in this new firmware.

I realize there is a lot of 'it depends' on how to set settings, but is there a document or someplace I can go online to find general best practice suggestions and guidelines for the settings in this latest firmware?

[RT-AC68U] : Way to choose CTF or CTF and FA NAT acceleration?

At the moment using 3.0.0.4.378_9135 and wondered if there was a way to choose between just CTF or CTF and FA NAT acceleration. The option seems to be either "Auto" or "Disabled". http://i.imgur.com/7MjpsEF.png Before this firmware, just CTF was enabled and the Daily Traffic Monitor stuff would should how much data I transferred each day. With both of these enabled, it basically has no idea how much data is being transferred.

Is there a way I can just enabled CTF?

Asus RT-AC86U - connectivity and memory usage

Just got this new router to replace my trusty RT-AC68U which was just about flawless in 3 years I used it. I upgraded the firmware to the latest 3.0.0.4.384_20308 version and restored the settings from a backup file from AC68U.

I am noticing that this router is using a lot of RAM (85%) in comparison to my AC68U (about 65%), even though it has 512 MB vs 256 MB for AC68U. Also, noticing intermittent drops in connectivity on some clients for brief periods of time.

Anyone experiencing the same...

Dear all,
I have bought the router 86U new and wanted to run it with the same, working configuration of my 68U. But unfortunately there seems to be a problem, which is very likely due to the current firmware in connection with the Open VPN Client.

The following facts.
Router updated to the latest firmware, the router was reset to factory settings and then I started with the configuration.
WLAN and LAN configured, no problems

Then I set up and activated my OpenVPN client as usual.
Internet...

FW signature check missing after factory initalize

I was having issues so decided to a factory reset/initazize tonight on my Asus ac68u router which is running firmware 3.0.0.4.384_21140. Afterwards I noticed on the firmware page the section for signature check is gone. Any ideas what I should check/try?

Is it only a feature with AI protection enabled?

AIMesh and WPS

I can't seem to find an answer after about 1 hour of searching the internet for the answer so I'm sorry if it's right under my nose.

I have an Rt-5300 and an Rt-68P set up in AImesh mode with the 5300 as the AImesh router. I enabled WPS for the initial setup, but now that its up and working, I want to disable WPS. This is the specific question to what answer I am seeking.

Can WPS be disabled once AImesh has been established? I disabled it and I got the pop-up about loosing connectivity...

Does asus only support Samba/SMB1? Is it possible to enable SMB2 or higher?

So I recently bought a GT-AC5300, and so far I love everything about it. BUT, the one thing that im a little annoyed about it the lack of compatibility for network storage.

I was hoping to use it as a NAS, with a hard drive plugged in. I've got it set up with FTP and a software called "WebDrive" for now, which is working well.
But only because I cannot get the Network Place/Samba share working.

I enable it, and in windows it tells me the device is using the outdated and insecure SMB1...

Does asus only support Samba/SMB1? Is it possible to enable SMB2 or higher?
